RE: Delaware Volunteer Firefighter Day Parking
Please make this announcement in chambers on Thursday April 3, 2014.
In preparation for the Delaware Volunteer Firefighter Day event, on Tuesday, April 8th, Legislative Avenue will be closed between North M.L.K. Boulevard and South M.L.K. Boulevard. Parking on the west side of Legislative Hall will not be available from 7:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.
Senate members who normally park on the west side of the building will have reserved parking spaces in the Credit Union parking lot.
House members who normally park on the west side of the building will have reserved parking spaces in the Archives parking lot.

Representative Blakey introduced and brought HCR 44, jointly sponsored by Senator Bonini & Representatives Hudson, Briggs King, Kenton, Miro, Outten, Ramone, Wilson, Baumbach, Carson, Osienski & M. Smith & Senators Hall-Long & McDowell, before the House for consideration. DIAPHRAGMATIC HERNIA AWARENESS.
WHEREAS, 1 in every 2,500 pregnancies is diagnosed with a Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH); and
WHEREAS, since 2000, it is estimated that over 500,000 babies have been born with CDH; however, only 50% of those babies survived; and
WHEREAS, CDH is as common as spina bifida and cystic fibrosis; however, very few people know about it or are aware of it; and
WHEREAS, 1,600 babies are born with CDH every year in the United States; and
WHEREAS, there are many people living in Delaware who have been diagnosed with and have survived their CDH, although many families in Delaware have endured the horrible pain and grief associated with the loss of loved ones with CDH; and
WHEREAS, those with CDH often endure multiple surgeries and possible medical complications beyond their diagnosis that include heart defects, pulmonary complications, gastric and intestinal problems, developmental delays, and may require respiratory and medicinal support for years; and
WHEREAS, raising awareness of this congenital defect will help bring about acceptance and support for those suffering with it and will help advocate for urgently needed medical research and advances.
NOW, THEREFORE:
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the 147th General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the Senate concurring therein, that we recognize April 19th as a Day of Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia Awareness in Delaware.

WHEREAS, pet overpopulation is a problem in the State of Delaware; and
WHEREAS, the Delaware General Assembly joins the nation in recognizing that pets can bring joy into our lives.
NOW, THEREFORE:
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the 147th General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the Senate concurring therein, that we affirm the importance of adopting pets when possible.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the members of the House of Representatives and Senate that we recognize the importance of preventing unwanted pets through spaying and neutering programs.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the members of the House of Representatives and Senate hereby designate April 11th, 2014 as National Pet Day in Delaware.
